3/31/2015 Tuesday
Getting ready for the trip…lots of lists made, some things already
marked off, but many more to get ready.
I have all my classes done for Maquet, receipts done, so money is on the
way for the trip…lol…
Today I finished a pair of slippers to use for the plane and
hotels. I am looking forward to flying
over business class, putting my new slippers on, getting all cozy on the plane
with Lin beside me and reading or watching a few movies while dining in style!
Isn’t that crazy to be excited about flying over business class? Probably because I fly so much and it’s
always “crammed in the back”.
Started the blog, so now I can start taking pics of the “getting ready”,
picking out clothes, shoes and toiletry items.
4/1/2015 Wednesday April Fool’s Day
So, no joke, I feel somewhat
closer to our goal, at least the taxes are done!! Of course that’s always a
great accomplishment this time of year, but I had to have it all done early due
to upcoming flight. A bit more sewing done, trying to get one quilt started and one cut
out. Only got a few blocks done, but at
least I feel like something was done.
4/9/2015 Thursday
Headed to the airport by 9am! Know what feels like winning the lottery?
Being TSA pre-approved!! Shoes on,
jacket on, belt on…no lugging the laptop and all those liquids and gels out…no
hurrying thru, trying to make sure no one grabs my crap, before I can grab all
3 bins and load all that crap back into the my carry on!! We had to be 15 lbs. or less for our carry on
and 30 lbs. for the check baggage. Not a
big deal for here to LAX, but when we go from Philippines to Thailand they are
strict on our weight limits. My A-list with Southwest, one of the first on,
husband following behead as companion pass.
Perks of traveling so much in the US.
Got to LAX at 12:30, with lots of time to wait on our 10:30pm flight to
Philippines.
Lots
of people watching at the airport, the counter opened at 5:20pm, then on to the
business lounge to enjoy some snacks, drinks, coffee before our flight.
9:30pm Boarding on Business class!! I feel so
spoiled on these seats, all the food, movies at the touch of a button, warm
cloth to wash hands, and more. I’m so
excited to get in the air. This is our
first flight together, Lin and I, in Business class. In fact, I don’t think, Lin and I have flown
together except on one flight before.
April 11, 2015 Saturday
3:23 am…Landed safely and wide awake in Manila, Philippines. Yes, there
is a missing day! Crossed the International date line about 4am PST.
Jose (friend of Lin’s) met us at the airport with his driver and off to
the City of Angeles. Staying here for a
few days, visiting and getting our jet lag legs under us. A few hours resting, but I really never fell
asleep soundly as I slept well on the flight.
Awaiting the jet lag to hit soon. Out to taste test the local
cuisine. Lots of tropical fruits, I’ve
been looking forward to for the last months.
April 12, 2015
Well, by 6pm yesterday, I was a zombie, so struggled for several hours
before it was acceptable to excuse myself and head early to bed. I’m very confused on the hours, and the sun
coming up early at 6am and already dark by 6pm is confusing me!!
But I am enjoying the local cuisine.
Headed out to breakfast to experience the Thai/Philippine breakfast of
curried or garlic rice, with a sweet, spicy meat and eggs for breakfast. Along with that I’m really enjoying all the
tropical fruits. Mangos, longan, guava,
dragon fruit, sontol, chichos, passion
fruit, & Malay apple. We walk down
the streets and just try all the fruits.
Our neighbor here, owns the local hotel, so we are trying dinner here on
the rooftop. The view is amazing over
the whole city, lights, fireworks in the background and a live band to
accompany our meal.
Eyes are struggling to stay awake and it’s only 8:30, I make it all the
way to 9pm before I drag myself to bed.
See everyone in the am…
April 13, 2015, Monday
Good Morning. It’s 6am and the
sun is up already. I need coffee!! I know you’re surprised to hear that??!! So glad that Lin brought a small coffee pot
over for us. We’re downstairs drinking coffee with the windows open and the
light breeze blowing thru here. Slicing
mangos for breakfast, with a bit of passion fruit. I think I’m in heaven with all this
fruit.
Lin and Jose want to go to a new breakfast café to have some eggs and
toast. Not a fan of this place, I really
like the other café better.
Walking the streets here, so many S’s: sights, sounds and smells! Some
good, some not so good! Very over
whelming to the senses. We want to do
some juicing with all the fresh vegees and fruits, so lots of shopping to get
these at the local stores. Out for
dinner tonight with a few new friends. Lots of retired military guys here that
have left the US and live here now. Most
have Pilipino girlfriends and have immersed themselves into the culture.
April 14, 2015, Tuesday
More fruit for breakfast, then we’re walking the streets for a later
breakfast of Pilipino meats and curried rice.
More friends of Jose’s are coming over today for his Chicken and rice
with soup. Spending the afternoon
visiting with them. Still struggling
this evening with the jet lag. The late
evenings are when I just can’t keep my eyes open. Have to take a least an hour nap before I can
go out to dinner. We went for Thai fried
rice for dinner tonight. I really like
the rice with vegetables.
April 15, 2015, Wednesday
More fruit!! More fruit for breakfast.
I can’t get enough of the fruit here.
Passion fruit, mangos and longon for my fruit this am, then we like to
walk down to the café for eggs, meat and curried or garlic rice. I have more fruit for drink, then we love to
walk the streets to see what other fruits or vegees they have in season. We’re going out with friends for dinner at an
all you can eat Steak place. Pretty
good, I love the salads and curried chicken.
I did try the steak and Lin had several pieces of steak. Not as tired this evening, no nap!! So much be finally acclimated to the time
difference-13 hours here and will be 12 hours when we get to Thailand.
April 16, 2015 ,Thursday

Have you gotten tired of hearing of the fruits I’m eating for
breakfast?? Lol. I haven’t gotten tired
of them. I remember in Malaysia, that was all I wanted to eat the whole
time. It’s so fresh and they are all so
different from what we eat in the US.
Today, I’m trying the dragon fruits, more passion fruits and
papaya. Heading out now for more
breakfast at the café.
Maybe today we’ll
get some McDonald’s ice cream at the on street vendors. It’s a bit different looking, so interested
in how it will taste.
